Writer Guidelines
Scope
1. Main target market: Men 17-40 (college to young professionals) Secondary market: Men 40+
2. Write for general public reading, we want our articles to be quality writing but not over the readers head.
Browsable Articles (some good examples)
a. Top 10’s ex. Top 10 mistakes of the wedding night
b. How to’s ex. How to bring a buddy to Christ!
c. 5 things … ex. 5 Things every man needs to know about lust
d. Top… ex. Top vacation hot spots
These articles although cliché sometimes I know, really draw attention and can be read quickly before a meeting or at lunch, while eating a big mac. This does not mean watered down content, just a structure and format that highlights key information and does not look like a novel.
Article Categories
Faith – This category will cover issues, resources and insight on the journey of the Christian man and his walk with the Lord.
Main Topics
1. Men of God Spotlight-
This section will give an insightful look at a Prominent Christian man or men that can be examples to all of us, either today or in the past. For example if you do Jars of Clay- We want to know why we like them- as artists, why they have been successful, a stand they take for the Lord or some interesting insight in their background etc. Or you could highlight a man from the bible in a “series on each of the disciples”. (Article length= 300-1000 words) Other examples: TD Jakes, Luis Palou, Christian Hosoi, athletes, musicians, etc.
2. Question of the Week
We want to talk about tough, raw, difficult, controversial topics. Questions that we have all had at some point or doubts that stick with us. For example “Why doesn’t God heal everyone?” or “Is the Bible really God breathed”. Or “God talking or Coincidence?”
(Article length 500-1500 words)
3. Missions spotlight
This will overview an exciting mission and opportunities to get involved both overseas and at home. We will need articles that highlight a specific mission organization and then we will link to them for more info.
4. Devotion
Share a lesson of Faith or something you have learned from your walk with God. Please keep your topic concise and too the point. ( 500 – 1000 words)
- Your Life: This section will deal with everyday guy stuff both pertaining to Christian struggles and encouragements as well as things every guy wants to know.
Article Topics
1. Relationships
This section will cover issues with love, friendship, parenthood, marriage and sex. Again, we do not want to sugarcoat things in a nice “Christian everything is ok” feel. We want to deal with difficult topics such as (“how far is too far before marriage”, singleness, lust, issues with Christian marriage, divorce, adultery). Of course we will also want articles on all of the wonderful things about love but we want men to have to think, dig, pray and wrestle with these raw topics. (Articles=500-1500 words)
2. Career and Money
This section will deal with issues of career and money. For example “5
ways to make sure you don’t have too much debt” or “Top Christian
Businesses to work for” or Top 5 Christian Entrepreneurs”.
(Article length=500-1000 words)
3. Style/Fashion
There are a lot of different types of articles that will be featured in this section. From style tips like “Hot shoes of summer” or “How to make a classy bachelor pad” to reviews on things like cars, watches, vacations etc.
4. News-
This section consists on editorials that involve recenct national and world events in the news. (500- 1500 words)
5. Health/Sport
Health and fitness articles: for example “5 healthy snacks for the guy on the go” or “specific workout plans” or “Bible study+devotion”. With this section we will also spotlight athletes, and sports news.
3. Your Free time
Article Topics
1. Gadget/invention of the Week
We all love new inventions and gadgets right? This section will feature a new product, gear or gadget. Give a brief summary on why we like it or don’t like it, details of availability and price and give it a rating of 1-10. (Article 100-200 words)
3. Hidden Website
This section will highlight an interesting, useful or crazy site and give a brief summary, link and of course rating 1-10. For instance howstuffworks.com is a great one for guys and I am sure you all know of a ton more that are hidden gems! (Article length-100 words)
4. Reviews ::
This section reviews music, movies and books. All kinds of media can be reviewed here not only Christian stuff as long as it is clean to a certain extent. We also would like to Spotlight up and coming artists, Indie Artists etc. as well as the mainstream stuff. Length :: 400-1000 words
Compensation: No pay at this time for articles but we will be looking down the line for permanent contributors that we will compensate. We will list your name by your work. You are a blessing to us from God, thank you for your contributions.
