The branding history of Prodigal Magazine…

2004 – it began with a top-hat…

Could you come up with any of a worse logo?  What was I thinking….nothing like an overused Christian symbol mixed with Frank Sinatra…

The website design didn’t get any better….but the concept started to take shape…don’t you love the gothic font!  Luckily this version never made it live!

2005 – We then became obsessed with ties…

Still searching for brand identity…we settled on the tie, to show a little class.

Launch – 2005

The first issue of Prodigal Son Magazine was released with the tie of course.

2006 – On to Grunge.

I hope you are getting the point here, we were struggling to keep a consistant brand going!  But most people liked the change.

2008 – Simple and Timeless

We are done changing logos and names and have settled on something we feel can last a longtime. I should have known in the beginning that simple is always better!

I think the logos are all cool. The tie is the best, but the fish had potential!I think a fish standing on its fins displaying empty pockets would have been awesome (indicative of the prodigal son’s state when he returned to his Father).

Nice choice on the new design direction. Clean and simple identity designs are the result of restraint and discipline. There is always a temptation to “over-work” any design. Blessed are those who choose to say more with less. Good job.
