People consider gaming to be a past time exclusively for excitable, energy-fuelled adrenaline junkies, but this is a misconception. For many, gaming is a way to escape the stress of everyday life and, luckily, there are plenty of video games to suit the more laid-back, zen demographic. Here is a list of some of the most relaxing video games, for those who are tired of status quo:
Stardew Valley is a charming little game to take you miles away from the hustle and bustle of regular life. At the beginning of the game, you learn that you have inherited a farm, and quickly leave your mundane full time job to move to the countryside to feed chickens and raise crops. While, to some, this may sound equally as mundane as a full time job in the city, it is incredibly relaxing and heart-warming, even allowing the player to build friendships with neighbours.
While this game does involve guns, it can still be considered a decent way to unwind. The objective is to gather all the tiny slimes together and herd them, but they’re very slippery and can easily escape. The slimes themselves are adorable to watch, and the game itself provides a nice distraction from boredom.
Flower is an eco-conscious game with beautiful visuals and a nice sentiment. Your role as the wind, and the objective is to move petals through various obstacles and revive dying land. The premise is simple, but it can occupy you for hours, and the soundtrack is great.
The most low maintenance game on the list, Animal Crossing is all about existence. In fact, that’s all you have to do: exist. You can make friends, go fishing, go foraging or even just walk around the village, but the point is that nothing in particular is asked of you, and that in itself is refreshing.
