May 15, 2005, DALLAS – The global village is invited to a worldwide
prayer meeting on Sunday, May 27, from 5-8 p.m. CST, when Bishop T.
D. Jakes, Dr. Jack Graham, and Evangelist Luis Palau host the third
annual Global Day of Prayer (GDOP) television broadcast, circling
the globe reaching every continent and time zone. The GDOP producer
is Dr. Bob Bakke. This year’s GDOP broadcast is one of three
Christian initiatives collectively called “Transformation Dallas”:
1) the Global Day of Prayer 2) 90 days of love-in-action through
urban renewal in depressed areas of the city, and 3) “Celebrate
Freedom,” June 29-30, a Christian music and extreme sports festival
at South Fork Ranch expected to draw 200,000 people. While
Christians roll up their sleeves and follow their prayers with work
and music, the bedrock is concerted prayer. “We face problems that
seem insurmountable,” said Bishop T. D. Jakes, pastor of the
30,000-member Potter’s House Church in Dallas. “And yet we know
that God has answers for them all. It’s our privilege to call
Christians around the world to set aside one day to pray fervently,
and seek Divine answers to seemingly impossible dilemmas.” War,
terrorism, poverty, homelessness, natural disasters and more
headline the day’s agenda as Christians blanket the earth in prayer
for world leaders and citizens. Besides the broadcast, praying
Christians will meet in stadiums and homes throughout the day. Last
year, events took place in 199 of the 220 nations. Organizers have
registered in 200 countries estimating that 200 million people will
participate in this day of united, worldwide prayer. The day will
include 18 hours of continuous broadcast in all 200 nations,
beginning in New Zealand and ending in Dallas. Dr. Jack Graham,
pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church, another of the country’s
largest churches, speaks for pastors everywhere saying: “We want to
take responsibility for our community, our city, our
churches-people all around us who need to know Christ. We pray that
God would move in every heart and bring revival that our hearts cry
for; that He would bring renewal in our churches; that He would
bring the harvest of souls that are all around us, responsive and
ready.” Last year, the Jakes-Graham team was joined by
Argentinean-born international evangelist Luis Palau. Palau returns
to Dallas for this event and the Celebrate Freedom festival
sponsored by Dallas-based Christian radio station 94.9-FM KLTY and
Interstate Batteries. “Dallas is one of my favorite cities in the
world,” Palau says. “I’m inspired and encouraged by its diversity
and by the powerful impact of the church community at so many
levels. It’s also blessed with some of the greatest leaders in the
Christian faith.” The GDOP on May 27 will broadcast from Reunion
Arena and is free and open to the public. Seating preference will
go to people holding tickets distributed through area churches. For
