15 unique business cards and our simple one

Business cards are a bit of an obsession to me. I love to see people think out of the box and use the classic tradition of the business card exchange as a chance to impress and inspire. New printing techniques allow unique ideas to come to life and has pushed the plain 3.5 x2 rectangle card into near extinction. There are great services online that allow you to take your creation, customize it and have it shipped to your door in days.

To my prodigal family. Thank you

Hey guys, It has been awhile since I wrote a blog post, the Table Project, is keeping me pretty busy, but after receiving this letter from a supporter of the magazine, I felt overwhelmed to send you all a message. When I started Prodigal about 5 years ago this Sept. I honestly didn't know how long it would run. Life changes, circumstances change etc. and I have not always been the most disciplined person in my life. However, for some reason, God has kept this thing going. I want to take a minute and thank you.

A Happy Father’s Day

It has been awhile since our last blog so I thought I would do a special blog for fathers in honor of Father’s Day.  Not like most kids,  I had 2 physical fathers in my life. I grew up in a divorced home and had a father and a step father and they live on [...]

NBA standings and boobs

Where is the limit? I understand that when I visit certain sites that I should expect to be targeted to by images of scantly clad women. I expect to see advertisements for lovelines when I am watching late night tv, but where do these media companies draw the line. It is Saturday afternoon, and as I am browsing the internet just checking on the latest NBA standings, I get this.

Toilet Water vs. Drinking Water

There are many things in this world that cause me to ask God "Why?" As I have done more research on the water epedimic in the world, I am continuously annoyed by the way we live here in America. After learning more and more about Living Water International, our partner ministry for OneMillionWitnesses.com, the pictures and stories continue to haunt me. They haunt me when I go the bathroom and see the crystal clean water, they haunt me when I reach for a bottled water or hear people complain about our tap water. They haunt me when people won't even take a swim in the lake if it has a tint of green. People are dying. People are dying from dirty water, when it it flowing right under their feet. Please do what you can. Conserve water. Below are a few links of organizations that are fighting the water epidemic. Post your ideas for conserving water in the comments.

Kanye, Pinocchio and Perspective

My wife and I were recently having a discussion on perspective. Why does it seem like we are always striving for something just out of reach? Why are we looking to do the next thing, travel to the next place, buy the next gadget? What is it about the human condition that feeds the rat race mentality? Is it the marketing society we live in? " If you have this new dish detergent, your life will be complete and clean" Is it the MTV effect? We see all the movie stars and the rock stars and want our own minute of fame. This discussion reminded me of the bonus track on the new Kanye West cd entitled "Pinocchio's story" which he performed in Singapore. I love the transparency of this track, as Kanye talks about being on the other side. He should have everything. Money, cars, talent, women....and yet he wants what he can't have. Check out the lyrics and the video below.

Thank you for my wife Dr. King

Thank you for my wife Dr. King

MLK day has never seemed so personal to me. Yes, it has always been a day history, speeches, and tributes by atheletes as I watched the game, but it never really sunk in. As I sat on our couch this MLK day, putting my fingers through my wife's dark curly hair, I was suddenly overwhelmed with gratitude. The work of this man as well as hundreds of others, paived the way for my wife and I to live in a nation that does not persecute interracial marriage. Other than a few people staring here and there, we have not had to endure the hatred that men and women in interracial relationships have in the past. My curiousity grew about this subject, so I looked into some historical facts to see just how far we have come as a nation. Are we truly tollerant of the ultimate desegregation? A white man, married to a black woman?

The branding history of Prodigal Magazine…

Oh the journey of branding an online magazine. An idea, evolved into a vision which evolved into our first really bad logo. A Christian fish with a top hat....thank goodness it never went public until now.

Prayer Mumbling…

The other day I found myself making noises for no reason. Well, I shouldn't say for no reason...sub consiously I wanted to affirm the person praying but realized that I was just making sounds to make sounds. I rattled the same thing off under my tongue over and over...."Yes Lord"....."Thank You Father". As I realized that I did this out of good intention but soon out of routine, it started bothering me. I started to listen to everyone's version of "prayer mumbling"...and wondered if they were being authentic or just going through the motions. You know you do it.....some people just make sounds like...."hmmmmm" others say entire sentances under their breath like...."Yes, heavenly Father, please, we beg you...
