Our Take: Not a lot to say here, quit frankly, I would never spend money on a bible app after I have used the free ones that give me everything I could ever want.

YouVersion – Free

http://blog.youversion.com/

Why tell you about the features…when you can watch it.

Our take: I came into this research trying to find a bible app that was better than this one, which is the one I use but what makes YouVersion stand above the rest of these bible apps is its active online community which powers the contributions engine.  Press any verse on the app and get notes and thoughts from other users on the YouVersion community. This really is the best Iphone bible app I have found.

Touch Bible LE – Free

http://www.touchbible.org/

Notable Features

  • Five English Translations, including:
    • KJV – King James Version
    • NET – New English Translation
    • WEB – World English Bible
    • ASV – American Standard Version
    • YLT – Young’s Literal Translation

The Internet is NOT required to use these translations.

  • Blazing fast & intelligent search
  • Readability – spread out words, adjustable font sizes
  • Bookmarks – Click the verse number and that verse is bookmarked for quick access later.
  • Dial A Verse – Touch Bible’s exclusive way of looking up scripture FAST (great for church).
  • Our Take:  The TouchBible works well but it doesn’t seem to have any features that the others do not.  I love that it is free and funded by donations, and it is intuitive enough to keep an eye one as it improves.

Have you tried Olive Tree’s updated BibleReader? You can download it for free, but you have to buy translations and books from their web site. They have over 75 titles available now and are working on another 450.

I’m the owner of Standard Works, which makes the “The Bible” application, and I’d like to invite you to actually use it. From your description I get the impression you haven’t done that – especially since the picture attached to our application above isn’t even of our application.

Please take a look at our tutorial and demo videos available at http://StandardWorksApp.com/demos Note: The video is of our “LDS Books” application, but the core application is the same between them. We also have additional screen shots, etc., available on our website for your perusal.

Terry – Thank you for noting the mistake. I have changed the photo, and linked to your demo video. The feature list comes from your website so it should be accurate. Thanks again for commenting and for your work to bring technology to the Kingdom!

Great application. As one of the Several Million American Catholics (out of the Billion world wide)that own Iphones and the Ipod Touch, I am disappointed that you do not have the New American Bible (NAB)that all Catholics in the United States use. I guess for now we have to use your competitor, the Olive Tree Bible reader, until you come up with its format.

I use Youversion on my Blackberry and think it is brilliant. Although you have to have a network connection to make it work, you wouldn’t not have network with Blackberry. plus it means you don’t have to download Bibles onto your phone.

You can also easily and quickly check multiple versions. It is excellent.

I did not read the whole string, however I have been using the free version of YouVersion. I am a little confused, which version I can download that won’t have to acess the internet.

      Thanks,
      Alex
